Obstetrics and gynecology residency programs will be using ACOG’s specialty-specific residency application, ResidencyCAS, in the 2024–25 residency application cycle.
ResidencyCAS is a centralized application system designed to improve the experience of applying to obstetrics and gynecology residency programs.
Visit the ResidencyCAS website to find trainings, resources, and general support to ensure you are equipped to use ResidencyCAS for the 2024–25 application year. Resources are available for applicants, medical schools and deans, clerkship directors and advisors, and obstetrics and gynecology program directors and managers.
The new platform will allow applicants to receive a more holistic review by the residency programs to which they apply. The platform is mobile-friendly and will support streamlined collection of recommendations and credentials, making the application process seamless and user friendly. It will incorporate the full suite of interview season functions, including application submission, review, offer and interview, and rank list submission.
The new platform will allow programs to apply data science to better align programs and applicants and improve staff efficiency at no cost to programs. Residency programs will be able to undertake a more holistic review of applicants. It will provide critical tools and support services to drive an effective selection process and provide better applicant support at a time when resources and staffing are limited.
ACOG’s work on the development of ResidencyCAS will bring tremendous value across the interview season experience for the whole of our obstetrics and gynecology medical education community. For our applicants, this includes both systems and application pricing work. Systems now in place, such as program signaling, have already resulted in decreased costs for applicants, as signaling has led to a decrease in the average number of applications submitted by our applicants. ACOG has also decreased the actual cost of applications through ResidencyCAS with a pricing structure built to complement program signaling. See our pricing chart below.
Number of Programs | Application Fee |
---|---|
Up to 18 | $99 |
19–30 | $18 per application |
31 or more | $23 per application |
ResidencyCAS will bring tremendous value to our residency program community as it allows for meaningful holistic application review; provides a powerful, web-based experience; facilitates an application and interview season carried out on a single, user-friendly platform that is efficient, effective, and engaging; and provides all of these benefits at no cost to residency programs.
The new application platform capitalizes on similar centralized application service technology platforms offered by Liaison (the platform’s host company) and used by numerous health professions training and education programs, including dental education, osteopathic medical schools, physical therapy programs, pharmacy and veterinary schools, and many large-scale state systems and graduate education institutions. With over 30 years of experience, Liaison has successfully onboarded more than 40,000 programs to the platform and processes approximately 3.5 million applications annually using its centralized education service technology.
The decision to launch a new application platform for obstetrics and gynecology residency program applications was inspired by the Right Resident, Right Program, Ready Day One initiative, which is funded by the AMA’s Reimagining Residency grant program. Among other goals, the grant program is dedicated to improving the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education.
Yes. The new application platform will only support applications to obstetrics and gynecology residency programs.
Obstetrics and gynecology applicants will use the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) for the Match. This new application does not change how the applicant or programs interact with the NRMP Match system.
The platform will allow applicants to upload all the materials they need to enter SOAP.ACOG will host a series of webinars tailored to help residency program staff, applicants, and advisors familiarize themselves with the new platform. Liaison International, ACOG’s partner in developing the platform, will provide direct support to program staff as they customize the platform to meet their needs. Attendees at the 2024 CREOG & APGO Annual Meeting will be able to participate in in-person group sessions and one-on-one sessions with Liaison International’s experts.
